This is something we would probably want to ask someone
other than Thomas Payne for, but I've thought it would be
cool for this or a future LCC to have a workshop on
articulatory phonetics -- basically, teaching people how
to pronounce some phonemes that they haven't
been able to learn on their own, or helping them
describe accurately some exotic phonemes they have
in their conlangs. Phonetics is much harder to learn
from from books or websites than morphosyntax,
semantics, pragmatics, and so forth, and a lot of
conlangers haven't had any good opportunity for taking
real linguistics courses.
I'll have to study Thomas Payne's profile & see if I can
come up with suggestions about what to ask him to
talk about.
