Re: languages in reverse

Douglas Hofstadter developed materials that tought "hsilgnE" as a
second language, with associated grammar rules for the written
language (statements begin with a period; the final letter of a
sentence or proper noun is capitalized, etc.) and learned how to
pronounce it well enough that reversed playback of his speech was
understandable English.

The comic book character Zatanna the magician (and her father Zatara
before her) casts her spells by speaking backwards. While the cartoon
versions tend to make her sound like she's sounding out the written
words (e.g., "Raeppasid!" comes out /'r\&p@sId/, I've always imagined
that it was really phonetically reversed.
