Every fieldworker does that, by merely arriving in a village
and being their for half a year - it doesn't matter whether
he's even more sympathetic to the local culture than the village
elders, he'd still cause changes. After all, he's rich, learned,
knows the authorities, and again, rich.
The ethics of fieldwork are a complicated subject - when I was at
University it was a separate, required course.
