"Dubh" is Gaelic for "black" or "dark". Now, regardless of rubbish, trash, and nonsense spewed to elementary school children and tourists, the Scandanavians and Irish integrated into each other fairly well. Brian Boru had as many "Vikings" in his army as fought against him. Maybe the name began as a fusion name, just like we have an "East Chicago" in Indiana.
