While we're talking of citrons and religion :), there is a variety of the citron called the "Buddha's Hand Citron" which is a very strange looking fruit. It's said to resemble Buddha's hand (or the face of Cthulhu). It looks more like a sea anemone to me. The fruit grows many finger like projections and looks very decorative. In China it's used to perfume cupboards and rooms. I think in Japan it's used as an offering to Buddha. The latin name is: Citrus medica v. Sarcodactylis
