I think the righteous way (when you need it) is to represent the
semivowels with the corresponding vowel plus the "non-vocalic" diacritic
(U+032F, COMBINING INVERTED BREVE BELOW). This is often used in
transcribing German "-r" (except "-er"), which becomes non-vocalic "a".
