Why does Spanish have genders attached to nouns? It's just the way
English is. We used to, but they fell together, mostly from phonetic
changes which made the different genders largely homophonous.
Besides, one could make the argument that English DOES have genders,
it's just not marked on the noun. The gender shows up in pronoun
choice.
