Uh-huh, I'm sure I've seen that too. Another excellent reason for dismissing the spell-as-you-speak argument. Now I'm thinking about such things, there's one other sign that's a personal favourite, one near Shepton Mallet* advertising "Telegrath Poles For Sale"**. * That's Shepton Mallet, Somerset, as opposed to Shepton Mallet, Vermont. ** Presumably hypercorrection of the "th" pronounced as /f/ in non-RP southern British English.
