I once saw Quentin Crisp use this anecdote in an interview to explain why
certain heterosexuals get an ambivalent queasiness about homosexuality. For
broccoli, however, he used "peas" (perhaps he had delusions of running for
office and didn't want to tee off the broccoli contingent)..
