Well, the IPA and X-SAMPA symbol for a velar lateral approximant is in
fact /L/, so Imperative was right in that.
IPA /l-tilde/, X-SAMPA /l_e/ or /5/ is a velarized /l/, which
presumably means that the primary place of articulation is still
alveolar.
And I think the dark l in English is /5/, so Muke is right too.
