I doubt [mdon't think solow] is anything but a spelling pronunciation.
m-w.com, which is usually pretty conservative,
lists /mElow/ as preferred. Anyway, marshmallows, though these days
made of corn syrup, egg white, and gelatin, were originally made
from the root of the marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis), which
is indeed a mallow.
