Every summer as a child, I would visit my grandparents in Waco for about two weeks. On the wall of their small den, they had a real antique: one those phones where the earpiece was separate from the microphone into which you speak. It looked very much like this: <http://www.andhowantiques.com/images/746a.jpg> But I don't think it'd been used for the better part of 40 years. Of course, the phone they actually used was rotary. ========================================================================= Thomas Wier "I find it useful to meet my subjects personally, Dept. of Linguistics because our secret police don't get it right University of Chicago half the time." -- octogenarian Sheikh Zayed of 1010 E. 59th Street Abu Dhabi, to a French reporter.
