When the aforementioned craze began about the same time in Sweden, I swore
that I'd buy one when I felt I needed one (as opposed to because my
classmates telling me I couldn't live without one). Finally, last autumn
(when I was 19) my parents gave me one cause they wanted me to be able to
call them from uni (thanks to mobile phones, public phones are now mostly a
thing of distant history). Now, I'm afraid I'm addicted ...

Got one at home. It's been around for as far as I can remember, which means
from the mid-late 80s at least.
