Oh, *that* makes sense. _Ya_ is Spanish for 'already', and
in Latin American Spanish it can be thought as a perfective
marker too, since the perfect tenses are almost obsolete:
(Ya) he comido.
'I have eaten already'
(Ya) com=ED.
'I ate (already)' >> 'I just ate'
