maybe it has something to do with the fact that [l] is a lateral
approximant? i tend to group lateral approximants with nasals, so maybe
that's what's happening here. or it could be from something like [4]...
i kinsi rorotan, the sonority classes are:
1. fricatives
2. nasals and [r\]
3. [j] and [w]
4. vowels
and in kontoko they are:
1. fricatives
2. stops, nasals, [4] (< [l]), and [r\]
3. [j] and [w]
4. vowels
