Could you elaborate on what you mean? To my mind, there's such too close a
link between "syllable" and "phoneme", even though I know they aren't
synonymous.

I suppose, depending on the language, if all syllables had to be CVC in the
spoken langauge but, because of this, could be contracted in the written
one: C1VC2+C2VC3 -> C1VC2VC3. Sort of the inverse of what Englsih and some
other natlangs do.
