[Conlangs-Conf] Omnibus debriefing of the First Language Creation Conference

Hello everyone.

To all 30-some of you who came - glad to have had you out (and met you
in person!), and thanks for making it! I hope it was worth your time
(and money) and, especially, that it will have furthered your
conlanging or other creative/imaginative/philosophical endeavors in a
valuable way. I think that's certainly the case for me, at least.

To the speakers - thanks! I enjoyed your talks, and am pretty sure
everyone else did too. Unfortunate that we had one person (Jeff Burke)
no-show - hopefully not related to his recent car accident - but given
that we went an hour overtime anyway, perhaps that's okay. As it was,
I felt sorry about cutting people off at 60 minutes (let alone 30 or
45!), and I would've had to be much stricter if we had 8 people.

All the tapes of the talks, plus the people I interviewed (Sally,
David, Matt, Sylvia, & John Clifford), in my backpack at the moment.
It'll take at least a week, and more likely a couple, to rip them all
and post them online. If anyone is interested in having a DVD, please
contact me AFTER I'm done with that, or you'll be too likely to get
lost in the shuffle.

Thanks to William Richard of KALX for recording audio interviews. My
understanding is that he has about a half-hour of audio from 11 or so
people, and will be providing me with a copy both of the entire
footage and of the version edited down as a 5-minute radio spot.

If anyone - e.g. press - is interested in re-broadcasting or
re-publishing in any form ANYTHING AT ALL of the media that I will be
posting online, you MUST get my permission first. I only have
permission to post them through the website for the conference, not to
give permission by proxy, and you'll need both mine and the speakers'
(and William's, for the audio).

Thanks also to everyone who donated and volunteered - without your
help, this would not have happened, nor gone as (relatively) smoothly
as it did.

If you gave me receipts and a reimbursement form - those should be
proceesed within a week or two, and you will receive a check in the
mail. If you gave me a donation, you'll get a letter with the tax info
in about the same time.

If you are interested in getting any conference gear (e.g. tshirts,
buttons, etc) you will need to order them for yourself through the
websites linked from the conference website; I will not be taking any
further orders-by-proxy. Anyone is welcome to do so, of course; it
should be pretty easy.


STUFF I WANT FROM YOU:
1. If you have photos or any other relevant media, please email them to me.

2. If you have any commentary about it, write blog entries or
discussion board/list topics about it, or anything of the sort, please
send me a link / copy.

3. If you attended, and haven't given me a feedback form (that's most
of you), please fill out the one at the bottom of this email. I've
changed the permission checkoff a little bit; just delete the lines
that you don't want your comments released to. (Make sure you reply-to
my personal email, not CONLANG!)

If you want your comments to be anonymous, please include a note saying so.

If you DIDN'T attend, I want your feedback too, but it'll have to wait
until the videos are online.


If I've left anything out, owe you anything, etc etc etc, please let me know.
