I happen to like the five-rayed Courier New *, but that could just be me. :)

As to the :: construction, I've heard that it came from AOL chatrooms,
where that was the standard way of emoting. I switch between two ways of
emoting: either *grin* as the players on my MUD do, or <grin> as was common
back on a BBS I read way back when.
