THIEF!!! ;-) Hee hee, I do something similar, altho it's actually a
particle, derived from corresponding words. They are (numbers indicate
gender):
"Angel" - Kán (Angel is a rough equivalent) - 1/2
Animal - Dáa (either a name of a particular individual, or of a kind)
4/5
Book, story - Kál - 6
Boy - Bí - 2
Day - Zá - 6
Deity - Káu - 1/2
Elder - Díz - 1/2
Family, Inhabited place (unproductive) - Ní - 6
Girl, Woman - Tá - 1
Language: Gá - 6
Man - Kús - 2
Moon, month - Lás - 6
People, race, clan, etc. - Nís - 6
Plant, Sun - Dí (another co-incidental homophony) - 6
Ritual - Líi - 6
River - Kuíu ([kw_0iw]) - 6
Star, World - Lá - 6
Sword, weapon - Tú - 7 or 6
Tree - Zí - 6
Village, town, city - Tá - 6
Written Character - Má - 6
The multiple meanings of Ní, Tá (the one that's gender 1), Dí, and Lá
are accidental, the result of the derivation of the name-particles. The
others are simply extensions of usage. The gender of the particle
determines the gender of the name, regardless of what the meaning of the
word is. Thus, if a river were named "Many Fish", for example, it would
be Kuíu Lafíkai Lafluái, but would take gender 6 agreement, thus "Old
Many Fish River is very long" would be _Samaazaamúlva Kuíu Lafíkai
Lafluái utiká_, where _utiká_ is in gender 6, not gender 5 (which is
what "fish" is in), which would be _latiká_ or _laftikái_ if it were to
completely agree with "Many Fish" (i.e., be in the plural as well).
Also, the name-particles take inflections, thus "of Many Fish River"
would be _Kuíuf Lafíkaif Lafluáif_. However, foreign names are not
inflected, thus "John" would be _Kús Ján_, and the genetive would be
_Kúsaf Ján_, not *_Kúsaf Jánaf_
My name in Utakassí is Kús naSilánis naGlisáki. Names are derived from
words, typically two nouns, contracted with gramatical relations
stripped, thus they may be ambiguous as to meaning. My name:
naSilánis, na- = gender 2, Silánis = (uva)silá (uia)nís = Uvasilá
uianísaf = Victory of the People, the meaning of "Nicholas"
naGlisáki, Glisáki = Glí (pia)sáki = Glítasva piasáki (He/she makes
clothing) or nanaglí piasákif (maker of clothing), i.e., Taylor.
