Yes, timezones are a problem --- even spanning 7 of them, from Denmark
to New York for instance, can be a problem on a Wednesday.
We can always try, though. Perhaps a recurring rendezvous, every four
hours from 00 to 24 UTC on #conlang on ircnet... that should enable
everybody to get on at a convenient time, depending on where in the
world they are, but still concentrate people enough that there's a
real chance of meeting.
