/S/ in old and middle High German

According to Joseph Wright's Middle High German Primer, p. 20: "/sk/
became /sx/ in late OHG, for which the spelling adopted in MHG was
|sch|. In the twelfth century /sx/ became /S/, but the spelling |sch|
was retained."
