The spelling ("LLoegr, Logres etc") suggests that a spot of early conlanging
was going on - an attempt to 'create' a possible Welsh word. Wasn't Lugh, so
spelt,
a Goidelic rather than Brythonic, term? The spelling "Logres" looks all too
familiarly like those awful Latinizations-of-everything by Saxo Grammaticus
and his
ilk.
I'd always imagined Leicester was Romano-British Llyr-Cester. Viriconium
(from memory) I think is the modern Wroxeter which (again from memory) is
Staffordshire. A lot of those "Welsh" place names actually turn out to be
English or calques of English like Rhydychen for Oxford, etc.

I used to think M. John Harrison's Viriconium was whole-cloth, now I
