In the USSR, it was even more bizarre.
Chomsky the linguist was not favoured in official Russian linguistics as
'non-Marxist, reactionist' and whatever. Chomsky the politician was, of
course, extremely leftist and 'progressive'. So in Soviet newspapers,
the baddie guy (the linguist) was Xomskij, and the goodie guy (the
politician) was Chomski. Go figure it's the same person!
