Definitely spontaneously; I've been making up words and (especially)
names-with-a-meaning for as long as I can remember, and didn't start
to read Tolkien until I was about 10 (in Dutch) and the appendices at
14 (in English; my parents had a paperback translation with only
Appendix A and B).
