I'd say the vowel is BATH.
Meaning of course, that those who have "broad A" (roughly: the South)
will have the same vowel as in PALM, while those who don't (roughly:
the North) will have the same vowel as in TRAP.
(For me, BATH and PALM are the same, FWIW, so I have [A:] -- or
whatever it is -- in "draughts".)
