Non-rhoticisms

I have decided that since I'm not a rhotic speaker (I'm not strong on
pronouncing r before a consonant) that the Old Englisc-based language that
I use for my diary won't be either. So what I am interested in now is
examples of how non-rhoticisms affects natlangs, especially Germanic ones.
Can anyone help out?

Q. Why are there so many Smiths in the Phone Book?
A. Because they all have telephones!
