Yes. That's part of it.
The other part is that if the design that the *most* people *like* is
different from the flag that the *least* people *dislike*, then in a
sense they're both "winners", only in a different way. In that
situation, it seems only fair to give each "winner" a chance to be
selected, and to give the advocates of each "winner" a final
opportunity to explain the reasons behind their preferences.
It's a way of trying to be meticulously fair, to make sure that
everybody feels happy with the final decision and nobody resents the
process that was used to get there.

How about this: if no advocates of the original (non-tree) version of
your flag speak up within the next couple of hours, I'll remove it from
the page, because the tree versions will have been there for 24 hours
by then, which is plenty of time for people to say if they prefer it.
Similarly, if nobody says they like the sun with the rays by tomorrow
afternoon, that'll go, too. Sound fair?
BTW, what timezone are you in? Do you keep strange hours? It's just
that I'm here in Australia, and a lot of the time you seem to be up
when I am (it's about half past eight in the evening as I post this).
Adrian.
