I wrote:

Rubbish!  German can (I was confused by the word order):

>   he walks over the bridge
    Über die Brücke wird gegangen.

Though this sounds a bit weird.

>   Wir sprechen über das Buch.
>   We  talk     about the book.
    Über das Buch wird gesprochen.

This sounds perfectly ok.

So basically, ignore me, since this wasn't an answer to the
original question...
