August Strindberg -- the Swedish writer, multi-savant and
cultural-political badboy of the late 19th century who abroad is most well
known as a playwright -- has postumously been diagnosed with *both*
Aspergers and manic-depressive disorder. The two "diagnosers" warred a
time, then agreed that S. probably *did* suffer from both. He was also a
long-time absinthe-addict, BTW.
And what shall we say about a guy like William Blake? Contemporary wit had
it that the only reason he didn't get locked up in the asylum was that he
lived next door to it anyways. ("There is a pearl in Lambeth which Satan
cannot find")
