Also, at least in my mind, there's a difference between America and "the
United States" - to me, America implies the ideological elements, the
beliefs and values on which our nation was founded, while "the United
States" implies just the territory of America, and it's possible to love
America while disapproving of some things done by the United States. To
put it another way, I think it would be possible to love "America" while
actually hating "the United States" and especially the Federal
Government (witness the Militia movement - many of whom call themselves
"patriots"), but I don't think that the Gumment's that bad yet.
