I've not read anything that shows they really tried to take the
Philippines either which was really more of a fight between the Spaniards
and the Dutch (IIRC). By the way, History in IB i think is close enough to
here that the Philippines still had the Spanish invading, BUT they gained
independence from Spain around the time the American colonies did.
