I see a bullet (•) like you get from hitting option-8. I'm betting it's eth or thorn (I can never remember which is which). Since those are fricatives and they exist in the Windows (et al.) extended ASCII and not in Mac extended ASCII (don't ask me why -- there isn't a day that goes buy that I wish we could make those 2 letters :^( ).

It looks like a ligature of oe to me.
