I do a similar thing (although I don't have the slightest
trace of synesthesia, and it's not that similar to
counting, but anyway). I say words backwards (as they
would sound if you played them backwards on a tape
recorder). The urge to do it comes periodically but=20
when I'm having a 'backwards' period, it's really=20
frustrating. And as you say Nicole, it sure takes a long=20
time to read things. Arghs! And I do it subconsciously.=20
I actually can't stop myself from doing it. Suddenly
when I'm reading I realize what I'm doing and feel
very silly.=20
