I used to have to turn to "face the mirror", by which I meant facing the
direction that I imagined my bathroom mirror to be. The direction that I
had to face seemed to be relative to the door of the house I was in, not
to the compass direction of the mirror I was thinking of. Then I broke my
arm. After breaking my right arm, I have never had any difficulty with
left and right at all.
Sometimes I don't remember how North, South, East and West relate to each
other, so I quickly imagine a map of the united states, and there they
are.
