"It doesn't really exist on a phonetic level either; it's actually [P]
(IPA phi), which makes me think more of the sound of [W] than [f]. But
we're so used to seeing that big mountain called Fuji instead of Huzi,
thanks to Rev. Hepburn."
Also, in most dialects the [ w ] is pronounced differently than the
English [ w ] - bilabial and without lip-rounding. This is one of those
sounds that are benchmarks for good pronunciation: if you can hear and
say this sound properly as well as the [ f ] /P/, you are well on your
way having a passable accent.
