In Valdyan "planet" is _laz sainan_, "roaming star". They haven't
invented telescopes yet (eyeglasses are only just being invented) but
they do know that planets are nearer the earth than stars.
Their perception of the universe is that the world is in the centre,
then the moon, the sun, the planets, the stars and the world of the
gods. The stars are either lights hung up by the gods, or holes in
the firmament that the light from the world of the gods shines
through.
For all I know, it may be literally true in that world.
