Uh, yes. That would be the word I was looking for. Thank you for

Well, if my daughter is 8, then I've been out of school for 9 years, and I
haven't been doing much linguistics during that time. A lot of things that
I used to know have been forgotten in the meantime (not to mention the
things they never taught me to begin with!) It's only been within the last
couple of weeks that I've gotten out a graduate level phonology textbook
that I bought 9 years ago before I left college and started seriously
reading it and working the excercizes so that I can remember what I have
forgotten and learn more besides. (I have a B.A. in Linguistics from
Indiana University, Bloomington, but I never got a Masters; I got my MRS.
instead, and we moved to Lexington.)
