The entire area of California from Monterey County south to San Diego
County on the western side of the California within 20 miles or so of
the coast is under red flag warnings due to the warm and hot weather.
It reached 92 Fahrenheit in Salinas today, and Salinas is within 10
miles of the ocean. Such temperatures are unusual here. I live closer
to Monterey so our temperatures were in the mid 80's F. Humidity the
other day was down to 12%, which is not at all common here.
Weeks ago we were getting smoke from both the Lick and Moonlight fires
which made for a brilliant red sunset and made everything smell like a
campfire. Ash also fell here because of it. The last major fire
closeby was in the Ventana Wilderness which sent ask falling here, and
before that the great Pebble Beach fire. I'm hoping that some idiot
doesn't start a fire here, since it wouldn't come from lightning (at
least, lightning fires here are very rare).
