Let me repeat what I wrote about a month ago:

That is, the names for the times of day mean "time when the sun is in
the X" (except for the north; people know that the world is round
like an apple and the sun goes around it, but they have to call it
*something*).
I haven't looked into languages of people living in the southern
hemisphere - in fact I don't know about any people living farther
south than the equator. I'm sure there must be some; I just haven't
met them yet.
