"Botlop" as a difficult name for a character goes farther than many editors,
i think, but i completely agree that they want generic language, and they
want you to name a donkey(or anything that faintly resembles one) a donkey.
my philosophy is you can rail against it or conform. <shrug> i do a little
of both, as i do in every aspect of my life *g*
i also agree that well-established authors can get away with much that we
newbies can't. that's life. every day, i watch fellow teachers that've
been in my school forever do and say things that'd get me on the fast track
to unemployment. rocking the boat's only possible when you've got the
muscle, and muscle's the product of age as much as ability.
