I know a guy on IRC who almost always speaks there as a character rather than
as his real-life persona. His usual character consistently spells things in odd
and usually comical ways (and also uses unusual grammar), whereas on the odd
occasion that he *does* say something in the context of his real-life
persona, his spelling and grammar are near-perfect. A few people on that IRC
channel have complained about being annoyed by his spelling, but for some
odd reason I don't mind it, despite what I wrote about things like <u r>
(but then he usually doesn't use abbreviations like that :) ) Anyway, it's
interesting, because the mental impression I get when he does use his
"normal" spelling is akin to hearing an actor's natural accent, after only
having heard them doing other accents.
