When *I* wuz in High School, there was no such thing as Vampire: The
Masquerade. You played Dungeons & Dragons, and you *KILLED* vampires,
and you got experience points for it and took their treasure! Yeah!
OBCONLANG:
At least two roleplaying game magazines, Dragon Magazine and
Sorcerer's Apprentice Magazine have both published articles about
conlanging, long ago (late 80s I think). I think I still have these
articles. It was the first time I heard of conlanging.
Unfortunately, they made it seem too complicated for me to be able to
do.
That was back in the old days when games were written to encourage
you to make your own world, rather than to encourage you to buy
supplements from the company to find out what *their* world was like.
And of course, Traveller had tables to help you generate consistent,
alien-sounding names for most of its alien types, including the Aslan
(lion-like, vaguely Medieval-Japanese-like culture), the Vargr
(gene-modified Terran wolves, a variety of cultures but typically
vaguely Norse-like), and Vilani (transplanted humans, whose
language/culture are currently being worked on by Kenji Schwarz, on
the Traveller-Culture mailing list on Onelist).
Ah, for the good old days...
