Looking at the BT, yes, actually... the generic is "man," which
can mean "human being," but wer, as in werhad, "masculinity,"
carries the gender. But there is always an extent to which these
words become more generic, so you can speak of a female werwolf
when "wer" is replaced in later English by "man."
