Short of inventing a new script, the Roman alphabet got to be the culturally
neutralest script around. And inventing a new script 'd be a major drawback
- forcing presumtive speakers to learn even more and to buy new keyboards.
Then you've got to question how culturally neutral the idea of a constructed
IAL is. While the fact that almost all IAL schemes I've seen have been
conjured up by westerners could be due to myself being a westerner who've
mastered no non-western language, the very idea of solving the world's
problems by a technical, "pragmatic" fix does seem pretty western to me. I
could go on to argue that the very goal of cultural neutralcy is a pretty
western idea, but I'm afraid I've stumbled deep into the mires of
IAL-politics, and will therefore stop.
