Lost World

I was watching the BBC series "Lost World" this evening
and there appeared a bunch of Native Americans (I guess
they were since I presume it's supposed to be set in
South America, even though it's filmed in New Zealand).
Anyway. They were actually speaking a language of their
own and not English, which was nice to hear. Now, does
anyone know what language that is? Did they make up a
language? They speak it very fluently and it does sound
VERY natural. OTOH, it would be odd if they spoke some
known language, like some sort of Quechua or Aymara or
whatever. They ARE supposed to live in a totally secluded
area, never visited by anyone before.
So, does anyone have any info on this language? I thought
I heard a more unusual kind of vowel, like /M/ or /7/ and
there definitely was a palatal nasal in there somewhere.
