C'ali is a tone-language, yes. I wrote up a summary of the behavior of tone for it some time back on this list: <http://listserv.brown.edu/archives/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0405D&L=conlang&P= R1138&D=0&H=0&O=T&T=1> Since my exposure to tonal languages in any detail is almost exclusively through Bantu languages, C'ali's tonal system has a (probably too eery) similarity to those kinds of systems. If you're interested in learning more about tone, I would suggest buying/borrowing 'Tone' in the Cambridge series of textbooks in Linguistics, the one by Moira Yip. ========================================================================= Thomas Wier "I find it useful to meet my subjects personally, Dept. of Linguistics because our secret police don't get it right University of Chicago half the time." -- octogenarian Sheikh Zayed of 1010 E. 59th Street Abu Dhabi, to a French reporter.
