I have once said molten cheese, when I was describing cheese that I had
melted in a microwave, and it was covering the crakers like lava, which is
always molten. Also when sulfur is liquid it is called molten sulfur.
I would go with the hotter = more molten, hypothesis.
or suggest that something molten has a high tendancy to become solid.
lava => rock
