I have once said molten cheese, when I was describing cheese that I had melted in a microwave, and it was covering the crakers like lava, which is always molten. Also when sulfur is liquid it is called molten sulfur. I would go with the hotter = more molten, hypothesis. or suggest that something molten has a high tendancy to become solid. lava => rock
