The CHA is pretty distinctively Ge'ez, though. The "McDonald's arches with feet". :) The glyph looks to me like WAA plus a flag on the right arc, but the extent of the line below the hoop is so slight that I think WE is more likely. The flag is on the wrong side for it to be WUA. I could almost believe KWI or KWA, but the vertical line doesn't rise above the arc... This is the sort of problem one often runs into with trying to decode a script one isn't fluent in. The subtleties are many, and what are insignificant font decoration details to a native reader can completely throw off the non-native. Heck, based on the URL (chao.jpg), I would expect the CHA to be followed by an O, but the Ethiopic abugida has no bare vowels. -- Mark J. Reed <markjreed@...>
