That is truly an annoying habit. Patrick recommends you disgard it.
I always talk to myself, and yes, I sometimes say things like, "well, me,
what should I do now? I know, I'll have a cup of tea. Then I'll check my
email and play UO. Yes, that sounds like fun." When alone, I do this
outloud. When around others, I *try* to subvocalize. Once in a while,
however, a conversation with myself *will* burst out in the presence of
others, especially if I'm getting excited, which explains why, when I was
living in a boarding house, I once said out of the blue in the kitchen,
"But Propagandhi are from Canada!" I got some very strange looks. I also
once growled, "That's the stupidest thing I ever heard," while walking to
class -- traumatizing some passers-by and probably coming pretty close to
getting myself beaten. You must be more careful, me.
