Well, he was exiled from Ireland for fighting in a war (he was a monk).
Legend has it that 3,000 on the other side died, and only one on his
side. At any rate, he was exiled to Scotland where the legend states
that he was determined to save at least one soul for every person whose
death he was responsible for.
